Small robots with a temper, priced for the shelf

A desktop pet at a retail price is an exercise in subtraction: no display, no camera, no cloud — just a dot-matrix eye pair, a touch sensor, an accelerometer and a firmware personality written well enough that ten behaviours feel like a hundred. The hard part is not the hardware bill; it is making a $20 BOM read as alive, and letting two of them react to each other so the buyer wants the second one.

Small robots already shipping

At this size the bill of materials is dominated by three things: the display, the battery and the servos. Everything else is optimisation. Below is the hardware we ship today at a shelf-friendly cost.

Exclusive Custom Line

Small formats we develop

A desk pet has to fit next to a monitor, survive being knocked over, and be quiet enough to sit through a meeting. Those three constraints rule out most of the hardware people ask for first.

The pets in these illustrations are drawn: most small-robot programmes are exclusive-channel and unannounced. Photographs of shipping product are in the Production range; behaviour clips and a noise measurement of the servos are available from sales under NDA.

Why desk-pet brands work with us

  1. 01

💡 Ten behaviours that read as a personality

Curiosity, sulking, drowsiness and play written as a state machine with transitions — the reason two units feel different after a week.

  2. 02

👥 A peer protocol that actually works

Infrared or BLE discovery between units, with behaviour negotiation so two pets react instead of both beeping.

  3. 03

💰 Cost engineered from the shelf price backwards

We start from your retail price and margin, then choose the eye technology, sensor set and battery that fit. Quantity and price quoted per project.

The two constraints that decide a desk pet

Noise and uptime. A servo that sounds charming for thirty seconds becomes intolerable after an hour at the same desk, and the fix is not "better servo" but a different motion vocabulary — smaller, slower, less frequent, with the personality carried by light and sound instead. Uptime is the other half: a pet that needs charging every day gets left in a drawer by week two, so the behaviour schedule has to fit the battery rather than the other way round.

Tell us the shelf and the noise limit

Retail price and the room it will sit in are the two inputs that matter. From those we can size the display, pick the servo class, and say honestly whether the personality you want survives at that price.
